Hardly needing an introduction - Holmes is one of our most successful licensed characters, known and loved the world over. He is known for his proficiency with observation, forensic science, and logical reasoning that borders on the fantastic, which he employs when investigating cases for a wide variety of clients, including Scotland Yard.

Widely considered a British cultural icon, Sherlock Holmes is arguably the best known fictional detective with Guinness World Records listing him as the "most portrayed movie character" in history.

The year of the first Sherlock Holmes license which was granted to William Gillette for his play ‘Sherlock Holmes’ on Broadway. It was successful on both sides of the Atlantic during the years that followed. The license was granted by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The first Sherlock Holmes appearance on television was an experimental dramatisation of "The Adventure of the Three Garridebs" on the NBC network in the United States in 1937, with Louis Hector as Holmes. Authorised by Conan Doyle's widow Jean.
