Collection Complete
We are delighted to announce that The Conan Doyle Estate's Character Collection is complete.
This has been a special project which has spanned the last 12 months - focusing on original and official characters conceived, developed and written by Arthur Conan Doyle represented by The Conan Doyle Estate.
We have had the pleasure of working alongside Jon Lellenberg who has commissioned, edited and in some cases penned these important insights to give a new perspective into Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional characters.
The Collection
Ranging from Captain Sharkey, Brigadier Gerard, Sherlock Holmes, Professor Challenger to Victorian London, The Scotland Yarders, The Baker Street Irregulars to Conan Doyle himself this is an original body of work examining the famous and lesser known cast members of Conan Doyle's repertoire.
The contributors cover the Anglosphere to present the profiles in many different voices, showing how they have been depicted in illustrations and dramatisations over the years. This work developing each character's artistic life off the printed page helps The Conan Doyle Estate to fulfil our mission to continue to broaden the appeal of Conan Doyle’s works to an increasing demographic and new audiences.
Each character demonstrates core DNA that traces back to the life of Conan Doyle. What better way to start to get to know them and therefore Arthur himself, than by getting into character with those who share similar professions or traits to Arthur Conan Doyle's creations.
Meet The Expert
Jon Lellenberg’s association with the Conan Doyle Estate stretches back to Dame Jean Conan Doyle’s time in the late 1970s. He is a Baker Street Irregular and a member of The Sherlock Holmes Society of London, and the author or co-author of five books about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s life and work, including 2007’s award-winning Arthur Conan Doyle: A Life in Letters, done with Conan Doyle biographer Daniel Stashower and the Estate’s Charles Foley.
